Our Additional Qualifications!
Our department has many additional qualifications that Dispatchers may obtain!
Emergency Call taker
The Emergency Call Taker qualification is: the only qualification available from the Dispatcher I stage. We highly advise all dispatchers to get this certification, as it greatly helps them boost their knowledge for 911 calls and brings them to a new level of their qualities for call taking. All qualifications require the dispatcher to have gone through the Emergency Call Taker course. The goal of this is to improve the quality of 911 calls when possible and encourage civilians to do more in depth creative civilian scenes and give us as much information as they would be asked to give in a real life situation. This qualification will be for all 911 calls, both law enforcement related as well as fire and medical related.
Emergency Medical Call taker
The Medical Call Taker qualification is a branch of the many qualifications on offer. Dispatchers are encouraged to take part in this qualification if they have a passion for fire radio or the medical area. To undertake Medical Call Taker, a dispatcher must be a Dispatcher I and must already be qualified in Emergency Call Taking. Dispatchers will find that both the Medical Call Taking and Law Enforcement Call Taking will be a step up from the Emergency Call Taker qualification. At this qualification, dispatchers will go in depth into the medical aspect of a 911 call, for example asking more relevant questions based on the patient's condition instead of focusing on the basics, such as location and what happened. Along with the medical aspect, this qualification will also touch on the topic of fire and rescue related calls and how we can better our dispatching in this field. Law Enforcement Call Taker
Law Enforcement Call Taker
The Law Enforcement Call Taker qualification is another brand of the many qualifications on offer. Dispatchers will be encouraged to take part in this branch if they have an interest in the LEO Radios or any Law Enforcement experience. We focus in this qualification on the aspect of gathering as much relevant information as possible that will aid a member of the Law Enforcement We will try to gather as much information as possible for both emergency and non-emergency calls. This will aid us all in prioritizing calls and how we dispatch units to them. Much like Medical Call Taker, any dispatchers interested in this qualification will need to be a Dispatcher I and must have the Emergency Call Taker I qualification.
Negotiation
The Negotiation qualification is a qualification that links into the Law Enforcement Call Taker qualification as well as the Medical Call Taker qualification: The negotiation qualification allows dispatch to have a qualified negotiator available if needed, this will open a new area for civilian scenes. If the event a civilians life is at risk and is on a line with a dispatcher we can have a qualified negotiator available to talk to the patient until Law Enforcement can arrive on scene and take over if possible. The small team of negotiators will be extremely qualified and will go through not only the beginner training course but will regularly do mini-trainings, to keep tactics and procedures in their head. Negotiators will need to be able to deal with different scenarios such as suicidal, kidnapping, hostage, life-threatening scenes and much more. The negotiations qualification is only available to dispatchers who are Dispatcher Ills and have gained the Law Enforcement Call Taker qualification.
Emergency Scene Management
The Emergency Scene Management qualification is a qualification for many of our more experienced dispatchers, this qualification goes in-depth into large]scale scene dispatching for any radio. We highly recommend only those who are experienced put forward for this qualification as if the need arises on patrol, you will be in charge provided there are no Communication Command Team members on patrol. You must be able to be flexible to jump between radios to provide the best service, as although there may be a dispatcher in the channel, you may need to jump around channels to ensure the correct messages are being transmitted to units. Much like a scene commander, you will need to be able to command the radios and information. An example of a scene an Emergency Management Dispatcher would be needed would be a large scale prison riot, multiple active shooters, Ect In these sort of situations, information all needs to be documented and run through one person to ensure all information is accounted for and can be traced back Due to the extreme requirements on patrol for this qualification, you must be a Dispatcher Ill and must have ECT, EMD, LECT to be able to execute this job to the full potential.
